Providing Non-Traditional Services to Learners of All Ages

The Community Education Division consists of a group of visionary educational leaders who create innovative partnerships with schools, government, business, and communities to build human capacity through dynamic services which enhance the quality of life for all learners.

Initiatives are designed to respond to the multifaceted nature of social and educational challenges within Allegheny County and the Western Pennsylvania region. The Community Education Division also serves as a catalyst to create unique educational partnerships which anticipate emerging opportunities to serve the regional community. The Community Education Division provides services through a broad spectrum of initiatives including:

• Early Childhood and family support services through family literacy support, early care and education, and comprehensive case management
• Education of homeless children and youth including preschoolers
• Alternative education for court-adjudicated and disruptive students
• School-to-work transition services for secondary students
• Workforce development for economically challenged adults
• Customized job training for adults in the workplace
• Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language 

Comprehensive community approaches produce outcomes which address quality of life issues through educational initiatives. Specific outcomes resulting from Community Education projects include:
