Educational Services and Support
The Educational Services and Support (ESS) Division serves the K-12 educational needs of our 42 partner school districts.We are dedicated to enhancing learning, increasing student performance and promoting scientific research on best educational practice.
The Division models what we know is best practice. Special and Regular Education programs, as well as other support services, work together to provide effective instruction and shared responsibility and accountability for students. The ESS team includes personnel in Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Developement, Training and Consultation (TaC) Services, English as a Second Language, Gifted Education, IDEA, Math/Science Collaborative, Non-Public Schools, Evaluation, Grants and Data, Pupil Personnel, Reading Achievement Center, Instructional Media Services, Curriculum Integration and Technology, Speech/Language/Vision/Hearing, and Special Education.
The AIU offers many educational options for school age children in Allegheny County. These services either enrich courses already provided by schools, or gives students an opportunity to increase their course loads.
Curriculum, Instruction/Professional Development 
Programs in the AIU's Curriculum Instruction and Professional Development department provide a variety of customized professional education options to teachers, administrators, and other school staff. Professional development specialists can also provide support and guidance in developing and implementing professional development activities.

Evaluations, Grants and Data
AIU's Evaluation, Grants, and Data department helps school districts leverage strengths to develop, build, implement, and evaluate dynamic educational programs, attract dollars to support those programs, and align curriculum and utilize technology to improve the efficiency of those programs.
Special Education 
The AIU Special Education Department programs and services are available to all school districts throughout Allegheny County. These programs and services support districts, whether directly or indirectly, to meet the changing needs of their students with disabilities. The special education staff includes supervisors, psychologists, teachers, clinicians and paraprofessionals who provide educational services tailored to match district requests.
